| Located south of Ashland along Highway 99, Weisinger's of Ashland's 23-year history makes them an old staple. Their hillside location across from the beautiful Greensprings gives their view perhaps a bit of an advantage, though their terraced three-level deck with umbrella-shaded tables feels close and intimate. Though they have Rogue Creamery and Willamette Valley cheeses and crackers available, picnickers are encouraged to bring their own food. Visitors can also enjoy live music on Sundays from 1 to 4 and occasionally on Saturdays, as well.
Their 2007 Petit Blanc is a blend of Viogner, chardonnay, Pinot gris, and Gewurtztraminer. With a fresh, grassy nose come hints of vanilla, a buttery, full body, and a slightly sweet, tangy finish that would pair incredibly with mild or strong cheeses, fruits of all kinds, or a cold ham and cheese sandwich on a crusty baguette. Also highly recommended is the 2006 Cabernet-Syrah blend. With a warm, peppery, blackberry nose and a big, fruity, jammy body, this wine would go nicely with a cold steak sandwich made from yesterday's barbeque, or, frankly, with just sitting back, sipping slowly, and taking in the great view. Weisinger's of Ashland is open daily from 11 to 5 all summer. Their tasting room offers one free tasting, and a full tasting costs $8. Picnickers are encouraged to enjoy any of their wines by the glass or bottle, and make sure to take a look at their fascinating indoor beehive. |
