Frugal Night Bites:
Beth's Cafe- 7311 Aurora Avenue North
The Hurricane Cafe- 2230 7th Avenue
It doesn't get any more iconic than the American all-night diner. These unpretentious purveyors of griddle food and bottomless cups of coffee have been the refuge of travelers, students, bar hoppers and early morning workers for a century and running. Seattle is home to two such late night havens. On the north side, the famous 24-hour diner known as Beth's Cafe serves infinite hash browns, decadent milkshakes and a notorious 12-egg omelet. Stop in for the casual atmosphere, simple fare and the crayon artwork of a year's worth of patrons. The Hurricane Cafe downtown is less cozy but friendlier to the party scene. It has a small bar that serves until 2:00 AM but the kitchen never closes. It's a great place to hang out (and sober up) after a night on the town and it's a refuge for those who need to catch the first bus of the day but would rather not wait in the rain.
Middle of the Nocturnal Road:
Club Noc Noc- 1516 2nd Avenue
Charlie's On Broadway- 217 Broadway East
If you're in the mood for finer fare after last call, look no further than Club Noc Noc in Belltown. On the weekends they provide an after hours dining experience that includes their full menu. Their tater tots are excellent after an exhausting night of dancing, as is the quesadilla. For a sit-down dinner after most restaurants close, check out the homey digs at Charlie's On Broadway. They serve their full menu until 2:00 AM, which includes fresh salads, thick steaks and fresh seafood. The décor is elegant but approachable, likewise the food, reminiscent of the classic Midwestern family restaurant.
Haute Cuisine Tard la Nuit:
13 Coins Restaurant- 125 Boren Avenue North
The premier locale for all-night eats in Seattle is 13 Coins Restaurant. Tucked away in a quiet corner of the Denny Triangle, this unassuming escape serves gourmet food 24 hours a day. They have a late night happy hour that runs from 10:00 PM until last call that includes small plates like their famous French Onion Soup, the fresh-cut Farmer Fries and a savory Gorgonzola Cheesecake with basil and sun-dried tomatoes. The 24-hour entree menu has an Italian inflection mixed with classic steakhouse recipes. Their desserts are especially excellent, from the classic Crème Brulee to some of the more exotic items on their seasonal rotating menu.
On any budget, Seattle hosts a wide variety of late night eateries. For the nocturnal animal in all of us there's no need to go hungry anymore.
