At Thursday night’s Bold Italic event, 3rd Base: A Dogpatch Microhood, 10 local businesses and restaurants came together to offer an evening of sweet deals and freebies in the emerging, hip mini ‘hood of San Francisco’s Potrero Hill. One of its participants, Dave McLean of Magnolia Pub and Brewery offered inquisitive beer lovers a sneak peek of the home for his new project near the corner of 22nd and 3rd St.
The brewmaster stayed tight-lipped about the specifics for the 8,300-square-foot space, but said it will house a brewery and restaurant with a menu that keeps inline with values upheld at Magnolia in the Haight. That is, whole animal butchery with local and sustainable ingredients. What will be different, McLean said, is the vibe of the space. The building, which formerly housed Joseph Schmidt Confections, features high ceilings and (at least for now) concrete floors and white walls. “This place is going to have it’s own identity from Magnolia, and the beer we have will be the common thread,” said McLean. Other than that, the brewmaster is keeping mum.
Stay tuned to see what comes about when the space opens (fingers crossed!) in six or seven months.
