As the last of the snow peas are eaten and the spinach starts to look pathetic, we're just on the cusp of beginning to harvest some garden-fresh summertime produce, now that it's mid-July. So I've been thinking, what summer veggies are you most excited for? Is it plump red tomatoes that taste sweet and zippy, plucked right off the vine? Bell peppers? Beans? Carrots?

This is my first garden that features something beyond one measly potted tomato plant on the patio. I am loving the light flavor of the Gold Rush zucchini we planted (not to mention the color -- wow!), but on a whim, I also planted something a little exotic a few months ago. I'm most excited for these babies...

My two artichoke plants were planted from four-inch-pot starts, and now the diameter of one of the stalks (the pictured one) is about the size of a silver dollar. There are seven (!) buds on it. That number was five two days ago, but more keep appearing, which is fine by me. (Not that I'm monitoring, or anything...)

What are you anticipating most?
