Although Jacksonville, Oregon is a popular visitor destination in Southern Oregon, even locals need that one special spot that leaves them super-satisfied on the way out the door. Gold Dust Cafe, the newest outpost for newcomers Matt and Bobbi Misener, did just that for me on a recent quick trip to visit my other Jacksonville favorite, the Jacksonville Mercantile. Well, truth be known, they sit within steps of each other on the main drag so you can't miss either one.
One of the best things (Actually, four of the best things!) about this cafe, are the four women that run this new establishment. From left to right above, Alicia, Katie, Kimberli and Yvonne, are the tour de force behind some of the best chocolate shakes and burgers to be found in J'ville. The shake is a meal in itself, combining four of the major food groups that one might slurp in a single sitting (you know...ice cream, milk, chocolate, and more chocolate). So thick you need a spoon until your pucker gets warmed up. There's some kind of secret to this concoction, as there is in the creative array of flavors listed on the blackboard overhead, including Almond Roca, Pomegranate, Oreo Cookie, and Caramel Mango, among others. This will certainly require repeat visits so we can report back on each of them.

Taking back seat in my book was the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, replete with coleslaw on the side. Served up casual in a papered basket, both were perfect complements to each other. You can find this and a range of beef, turkey veggie and pastrami burgers, all with special toppings, served up with with perfect service and a smile. These gals aim to please!
