By the time you pass Crater Lake on the way back from Bend, you're probably ready for a walk and a bite. Whether it's an ice cream cone on a hot summer day, a slice of pie after dinner, or a home-style meal you're looking for, Beckie's Café has been a Union Creek staple for over 70 years. And why not stretch your legs on the path next to Union Creek?

Down the hill in Shady Cove, Crater Lake Cellars' tasting room is open 11:30 to 5 daily. Sample the winery's full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon or a lighter Gewurztraminer, or pick up a bottle with one of those iconic labels to take home.

In Eagle Point, take a small detour off Highway 62 at East Linn Road to stop at the Butte Creek Mill and Antique Store. Stretch your legs by taking a tour of the mill, which has been in operation since 1872, or poke around the antique store next door. On your way out, pick up some organic pancake or waffle mix, or a gift box full of Oregon goodies from the General Store.

Just down the road and across Highway 62 from the mill, the Agate Ridge Winery tasting room is open Tuesday to Sunday, 11 to 5. Sample and nibble on Rogue Creamery cheese, or ask for a tour of the vineyard or winery, which the staff is happy to give.
"We try to educate people as much as possible about the industry, because it is very interesting," says Sharryl Giossi, the tasting room manager. If you're planning to be in with a bigger group, be sure to call ahead to schedule a tour.

Take your time and enjoy the scenery. Sips of wine, bites of cheese and other nibbles along the way make this beautiful drive a delicious one.
