Top Wine Bars in the Portland 'Burbs

We all know that downtown Portland is loaded with swanky wine bars, but what about the suburbs? If you’re looking to expand your wine horizons or meet up with friends for an earthy glass of Pinot without making the trek downtown, here are a few places to try:

Searching for a quiet, intimate spot to sip a glass of vino? Corkscrew Wine Bar is just the place. Situated off 17th and Bybee in the Sellwood neighborhood, Corkscrew is a cool blend of past and present: reclaimed wood planks from an old barn off the Columbia River, antique sewing machine tables, iron work from a local artisan, plus a selection of wines (and a few beers) from all over the world. Owner Tracee Danyluk says, “This wine bar isn’t for wine snobs; it’s for wine lovers.” On a budget? Enjoy the $5 red or white house pours. Wine Tasting Wednesdays: sample 5 wines for $10. Live music every Thursday. Choose from a limited offering of small plates (Spanish tortilla, charcuterie, cheese plate) or bring in your own food. Open Tuesday through Sunday; closed Monday.

Owned by husband and wife team Carlos and Sarrah Torres, Winestock Wine Shop and Wine Bar is definitely worth a trip to Oregon City. Mingle with other patrons at the bar, grab a table, or settle down on one of the couches and make yourself at home. Choose from a list of wines by the glass (and a few beers), or browse the selection of local and international bottles on display. Each week a different wine flight is featured. Although Winestock has a limited small-plates menu, feel free to bring your own food from home or a nearby restaurant. When the weather is warmer, two garage door-style windows open up the space. Local artwork decorates the walls for a friendly community atmosphere. Open Monday through Saturday; closed Sunday.

Located in the bustling community of Multnomah Village, Sip D’Vine features wines exclusively from the Pacific Northwest. Check out the ever-popular $15 and Under shelf for a great selection of taste-tested, budget-friendly wines, or try one of the 15 or so wines by the glass. Owner Jill Crecraft has done a great job of making Sip D’Vine a fun and lively hangout spot that hosts regular live music and social events. You can also bring your own food. 15% case discount. Flanking the 3-acre Tualatin Commons lake is Parallel 45, a wine bar and bistro featuring a large selection of local and international wines by the glass, a few beers on tap, small plates, and a full dinner menu. Owner Steve Sweney has used his 25+ years in the restaurant business to create a cozy atmosphere that is serious about wine - but not pretentious (thank goodness!). With new wine flights each month and occasional wine dinners, Parallel 45 has a loyal following of regulars. Take a seat outdoors when the weather is nice. Open Monday through Saturday; closed Sunday.
