Earlier this year, I wrote about Falling in Love with the Portland Food Carts, and described why the mobile dining trend that had taken over the Rose City was so great. Yesterday I found yet another reason to love the Portland food cart scene after I visited the Burritos Funny cart located on 60th and East Burnside.
The cart is unassuming, and located in a parking lot adjacent to a 7-11 store—far from the downtown cart pods and hip food cart spots in Southeast. But, despite the out-of-the-way location, Burritos Funny makes the most delicious tacos I have ever had north of the border. And that’s not an exaggeration. The tacos el pastor that I ate sitting in a makeshift plywood seating area were absolutely, mind blowingly delicious. |

The meat was tender and bursting with flavor, the traditional corn tortillas soft and fresh, and the finely diced onions and cilantro that topped the succulent meat tasted straight from the garden. And all of this for only $1. And,no, that’s not a typo, Burritos Funny has masterfully created tacos for only a buck a piece, which are served with a smile by the friendly staff. I would even go as far as to say it was the best $1 I ever spent.
Burritos Funny offers a simple menu of authentic burritos and tacos with your choice of chicken, asada, el pastor, carnitas and even traditional tongue and tripe.
Oh, and did I fail to mention the fresh, homemade hot sauces and salsas? Burritos Funny offered delicious traditional red and green sauces and a house specialty salsa made from red onions, cilantro and habenero peppers, which had just the perfect amount of heat for spice lovers.
