From All Over
I never intended to search for a Georgia cheese. Rather, it just ended up right before my eyes. I coincidentally tried it at the farmer’s market and again at a tasting event, but they were not large enough portions for me to actually experience what it tastes like. As a result, it was such a pleasant surprise that I thought I would do a little show and tell.
Thomasville’s Sweet Grass Dairy Soft Ripened Cow Cheese is luckily available at most local Georgia markets including Pine Street Market and Whole Foods for $9.99 each. I will humbly admit in my memory that I have never tried Georgia cheese until now. I was so excited to see how it would compare with packaged, store-bought products and my ever-favorite international imports.

I was shocked. Once I unwrapped the package, I thought the cheese came straight from the ground itself because it smelled so fresh of that Georgia soil. The scent alone gave me the feeling that someone just finished making this hours ago as it had no hints of manufacturing in any way. It even brought me memories of the cheeses I would try in Europe.
The skin was thick and pleasingly edible. That is, if you are a cheese rind eater like myself. The inside tasted even better. Its creamy, buttery smooth center made my palate instantly water while my imagination went wild with how many different ways this could be devoured, from spreading it on toast to adding it in pasta dishes. Oh, and did I mention the fantastic chemistry it has with green grapes? The combination is a textbook example of tart and mild, leaving you completely satisfied. So satisfied that I am considering traveling to Thomasville myself to see what else this farm has to offer Georgia and the south.
