Find It - Eugene
As a University of Oregon alum, I have to admit I felt both jealous and excited when I heard that Voodoo Doughnuts recently opened up shop in Eugene. Jealous, not because of my lack of access to Voodoo (I live around the corner from their NE Portland location), but rather because Voodoo had not been in Eugene during my college years. Excited because it means Voodoo is now there, just in case I get a craving for a doughnut when visiting my former college town.

Voodoo Doughnuts, the funky, local, late-night Portland doughnut shop famous for its wacky doughnut creations available in the late night and morning hours (like my boyfriend’s favorite--the Bacon Maple Bar, a light, fluffy maple bar with strips of fried bacon on top), has been wildly successful in its hometown of Portland. The doughnut shop and its creative doughnuts have been featured on Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations, among other television shows, in magazines and more.
Now Voodoo Doughnuts is making a move south to Eugene, where Voodoo owners Kenneth Pogson "Cat Daddy" and Tres Shannon thought the downtown location in the center of the downtown bars, near campus and overall Eugene vibe would match well with Voodoo.
“We started checking it [Eugene] out, and we thought it had good vibes down there. Silly as it is, we think the location we’ve found has the mojo. It’s in the ‘drinking district,’ it’s near the University of Oregon, and in summer there’s a lot going on, with the Country Fair, music, art exhibits — lots of activities,” said Pogson in a recent Register Guard article.
The opening of the Eugene Voodoo on Friday, May 7 on the corner of Broadway and Willamette in Eugene was a big hit, selling out of doughnuts in just a few hours.
What’s your favorite local doughnut shop, and what are its most bewitching qualities?
