Located in southeast Eugene, The Hideaway Bakery is nestled right beside Mazzi’s Italian Restaurant and is more than living up to its name. With a secluded location and a sanctuary-esque atmosphere, this is the quintessential local spot to enjoy the first meal of your day. Upon entering the outdoor seating area, your senses are immediately bombarded with the warm and comforting aroma of freshly baked artisan breads. Not only do they bake their loaves in a traditional wood-fired oven, they also use local, recycled wood to fire it up.
The café, located within the same area as the wood-fired oven, offers a hefty amount of options for the most important meal of your day. The morning hour pastry menu caters to all ages and tastes, and includes small but satisfying delights such as their buttery Almond Bear Croissants and delish Pain au Raisin, as well as an extensive amount of vegan and gluten-free items like tasty Coffee Cake and ooey-gooey Sticky Buns.
If you need a bit more than a pastry to satisfy your morning hunger, the café also offers a rustic breakfast menu, with dishes ranging from more healthy options like Muesli with Yogurt & Berries, to heartier carbohydrate and protein-filled dishes, like a variety of flaky Croissant Breakfast Sandwiches or yummy Breakfast Tacos.
And don’t forget to pair your pick with a strong Café Americano, or a sweeter wake-up option like the Dragonfly Chai, which hails from just up north in Portland. The chai’s sweet and spicy mix fairs well with The Babe’s Choice: scrambled eggs and melted Provolone cheese on your choice of a fresh bagel or artisan bread, with a side of mixed greens. I’d recommend the onion bagel, which is covered with small bits of toasted onion and loads of flavor, which complements the Provolone perfectly.
Once you’ve purchased and paid, steer yourself over to the outdoor patio with your number, where you’ll be served shortly – don’t worry, heaters are provided for brisk mornings. If the weather is cooperating, you’ll also be able to visit the farmer’s market (situated right next to the patio) on Saturdays from 9am-2pm, to purchase an array of local and organic produce including greens, eggs, and freshly picked seasonal fruits and veggies from the Hideaway's own South Eugene Farm.
The seclusion of The Hideaway Bakery is alluring and comfortable, and after you leave, you’ll find yourself immediately wishing you could relive those once-dreaded morning hours on the café’s patio. It's the perfect, most delicious way to start your day!
