Portland isn’t the only Oregon city where one can find good bakeries. Eugene, too, has its fair share of mouthwatering, freshly baked delights. Here’s a sampling of what the Emerald Valley has to offer:
Walking into Sweet Life Pâtisserie is like stepping into a confection-filled dream. On a recent visit, the display case was brimming with sweet and savory specialties like Blueberries and Custard Cake, minty White Chocolate Grasshopper Cheesecake, Chocolate Cupcakes topped with Kirsch Chocolate Ganache, soft Pumpkin Cookies with buttery brown sugar frosting, and even savory Beer and Bacon Potpie. If you’re in the mood for something cold and creamy then try some gelato - the Lemoncello flavor tastes like a cool dish of summer. Planning a wedding? The Sweet Life Wedding Salon will create a beautiful masterpiece for your special day.

Located in a strip mall on the south side of town is Metropol Bakery, which specializes in freshly-made treats like Apple Crumble Pie, Orange Mocha Rum Cake, Banana Cream Tart, all-butter Croissants, and Eugene Sourdough bread. This is definitely the place to come if you want to indulge in ginormous cream puffs, homemade soups, or sandwiches served on housemade rustic breads. Local artwork decorates the interior, including figure paintings, colorful drawings, and framed images of some of Eugene’s elite running stars.

Situated just down the street from Hayward Field and the U of O campus is Eugene City Bakery, a small shop featuring rustic breads, savories, and pastries. Pick up a loaf of handcrafted artisan bread like their Sweet Potato Pecan Sourdough (perfect for French toast!) or Pumpkin Seed Pane Antico (a hearty Italian loaf). Or try one of their signature coffee drinks like the Lavender Vanilla Latte made with lavender simple syrup, vanilla syrup, espresso, and steamed milk. Bakers make everything in-house using local and organic products as much as possible. 1607 E 19th Avenue, Eugene

This specialty foods emporium sells hearth-baked breads and an array of decadent cakes and pastries. The Lemon Meringue Cake, Raspberry Buttercream-filled French Macrons, and Triple Chocolate Cake beckon to customers, while classic Parisian baguettes scream to be slathered with sweet cream butter and a dollop of Marché Provisions Red Raspberry Jam or Pear Butter. They also offer delicious thin-crusted pizzas, specialty sandwiches made with their own breads and condiments, house-made soups, and an expanded line of charcuterie made with local ingredients.
