| Dedicated to local ingredients, renewable energy, organic ingredients, and sustainability, Ashland's own Standing Stone Brewing Company makes some really tasty beer and delicious wood-fired pizzas. With a large bike parking area out front and solar panels in the back, they declare their philosophy proudly to passers-by before tempting them inside with a view of their stainless steel brewing tanks upstairs from the main restaurant.
Standing Stone brews a modest range of beer from their Midsummer Golden, an excellent session beer, to their burly Stuckey Stout and their Doubly India Pale Ale, which is a total hop bomb that is likely to knock the unwary drinker to the floor. Just getting seated at a table will get a group of patrons a bread platter with their delicious tomato spread and garlic-basil butter, which simply primes the palate for some great pizza. Their wood-fired pies only come in 6" and 9" sizes, but reasonable prices and great beer make them worth it. And, as the staff are happy to remind you, if you're still hungry after your first pizza, you can order a second. Their 6" pizzas are prices quite reasonably at $6 to $8, and their 9" pizzas from $9 to $11. A pint of their excellent beer costs $4, and a tasting tray is $5. Though it may seem like a strange combination, try their Double IPA with "the Pesto," which features artichoke hearts, blue cheese, walnuts, and grapes. |
