<description>Good idea, Coalition, but hardly “the first brewery in Portland that partners with home brewers and engages customers to develop new beer.” Widmer Brothers has been partnered with the creative energy generated by hundreds of homebrewers in the Oregon Brew Crew for over 12 years. Each of the Collaborator brews are brainchildren of home brewers who put forth their best efforts and are rewarded by their peers by being selected to have their home brew amped up to production volume (with the help of Ike Manchester at the Widmer pilot brewery) and then served on draft taps throughout Portland. And that’s not all – a portion of the proceeds of every barrel of Collaborator beer that Widmer sells goes to the Bob McCracken Scholarship Fund which supports students at the Oregon State University Fermentation Science program under the direction of Dr. Thomas Shellhammer. Now that’s a win-win partnership!

An article by Laurie Yadon entitled “Portland Collaborator Project” is listed in the table of contents of the March/April 2010 issue of Zymurgy as that issue’s “Online Extra”, and can be read on the AHA website here:
